First, let me just say that Girl’s Night Out was a blast! I got to meet so many new people, and we gave away a free studio shoot 🙂 Thank you to everyone who came out, you rock!
Something that I realized though as people moved through our little studio, was that there isn’t a lot out there about who we are, or what we look like. So, here’s a little introduction to Sassafras Studios.
My name is Sally Ladrach, and I’m the photographer/voice of this blog. I grew up in Southern California in a little town (of 35,000 people) called Claremont. It’s a college town, also known as the “City of Trees and PhDs”. One of the things I miss most when I’m in Ohio is seeing palm trees everywhere.
After high school, I decided to attend the College of Wooster, where I majored in German Studies. People ask me all the time, “Why the HECK would you move to Ohio from California!!!???” Well, my best friend recommended the College of Wooster to me. At first I told her she was crazy if she thought I would ever move to the midwest. However, after receiving a healthy scholarship and falling in love with the town, I decided to venture off into the unknown. I have learned so much from making my way in a new place. Even though I miss my sunshine and palm trees, I wouldn’t change my decision for anything.
During my senior year of college, I met the love of my life (now husband) Adam. At my last football game as a band student he proposed to me under the bleachers, and we were married shortly after I graduated. Adam grew up in Apple Creek, and his family lives in Millersburg now, so we chose to start our life together here in Holmes County with our two adorable kitties. We’re very happy here, and I feel so incredibly blessed to be living out my “happily ever after”!
Once we settled down, I decided that I wanted to start building a business that would one day help support our family. So, I started Sassafras Studios, LLC. I have always loved cameras and taking photos. I always had a camera with me in high school, whether we were at a band competition, or I was in the pool at Dive Team practice. In college, I got my first DSLR and started taking photos for friends to make some extra cash on the side. I have been practicing my craft, and continuing to hone my skills ever since. Last year we got the official business license and we rented out a studio. It’s not large, but it’s home, and works great for photos like this one.
One of the things I love the most about this business is working with my husband. Our skills balance each other out so well it’s almost uncanny. Adam is very technically inclined, and has a knack for bringing my creative vision to life. If I can imagine it, he can manipulate technology to make it happen. I love talking to people, and he helps me with the administrative and legal end of running a business. There are so many personality traits and skill sets where we balance each other out that working as a team is easy (most of the time :P). Together, I think we will be unstoppable!
Anyway, that’s just a little peek into our life, who we are, and why the heck we started this business in the first place. I am so excited to see what the future holds, and I can’t wait to share it all with you through this blog!
